Bad Personal Trainers

Stupid Exercises

Could you imagine purchasing something like this…and then thinking that it would actually work?  Not only does it not work, but you end up paying money for it.

Unfortunately, I have seen workouts and exercises from personal trainers over the years that have challenged this video over and over again.  It almost makes me wonder if there is a secret society out there for personal trainers to see who can make their clients do the least effective, money wasting workout.

Watching these workouts is like watching Meet The Parents.  Extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing, but impossible to stop watching.  It’s even kinda funny at times…the kinda funny where you have that bad feeling in the pit of your stomach.

Here are some of the worst workouts/ exercises that I have seen clients actually pay money for.

1. A rather large middle aged woman (who I was aware was coming to lose weight) doing 5 pound bicep curls til she could no longer do them.  Now I know that every woman wants to tone her arms, but when you weigh over 200 pounds, your biceps are the last thing you should be worrying about.  Not only do bicep curls do very little for burning calories, but lifting 5 pounds is less productive than lifting her arms over her head 100 times.  Trainer Grade: D

2. A middle aged normal sized woman “working out” with her personal trainer.  The hour starts with a 20 minute walk (I would really call it a crawl) where the trainer is in her office talking on the phone about her plans for later in the evening.  This is followed up by several minutes of the client complaining about how she isn’t losing weight and the trainer responding by agreeing and also complaining back about how she can’t lose weight either. 15 minutes of leg lifts and seated exercises later and I had to turn away in disgust.  $75 for 60 minutes.  Trainer Grade: D -

3. A middle aged man who is rather fit, but has back problems. The session goes like any decent workout, except one thing is missing…the trainer.  $65 for the hour and the trainer never comes out.    Trainer Grade: F  Client Grade: F
