City of Brotherly Love

As Katie and I get ready to make a trip out to Philly this evening, I thought it was fitting to write a post about support systems since we are heading to the City of Brotherly Love.

Having a support system is extremely important when striving to reach your fitness goals.  Whether the support system be a family member, friend, or co-worker, having someone to workout with or just tell your progress to is a great motivator as the weeks of workouts go on.

Use these quick tips when looking for a workout partner or someone to keep you honest in your workouts:

-Choose someone who is hardworking and doesn’t flake out on activities.  People tend to act like their company.  If you are around other hardworking individuals you are much less likely to skip workouts

-Choose someone who you like.  This should be obvious, but I have had workout partners who are ‘friends’, but in reality hate each other.  Think Real Housewives of Orange County.

- Choose someone with a positive attitude.  Sooner or later you will want to complain about something one day (not losing enough weight, workouts are too hard, etc).  You need someone to listen, but not someone to join you in the pity party.Greg Carbone, CSCS, CPT, YFS
