Fitness Myths Even Some Trainers Believe
It’s pretty late on Thursday night, nothing good is on TV (except this multi overtime game between the Celtics and Bulls…2 teams I couldn’t care less about), and I have had 1 hell of a week. Those of you who know me pretty well know one big thing that fires me up…bad trainers who bullshit and misinform good, paying clients. Unfortunately, I see way more bad trainers than good trainers these days, as do most of us. Let’s face it, very few personal trainers or fitness instructors have any clue what they are doing anymore.
So what can you do besides pay them $70 an hour for crappy results and an ear bleeding from their nonstop talking? You can start knowing what is helpful and what is BS. Most good trainers will know the correct answer to the following, so read over these; educate yourself; and give your “Master Trainer” a little test on how much they really know.
Myth #1
The Best Way to Achieve Flat Abs is a Great Ab Workout
This is BS. Diet and high intensity weight training and cardio intervals is the best way to get those 6 pack abs. Regular crunches and side bends have their place in a workout program… and it is near the bottom.
Myth # 2
Slow Punching with Pink Weights is a Top Notch Workout
Give me a break. I have actually seen this crap lately and would rather slam my hand in a car door rather than watch it again. I could just imagine the dollars slowly slipping out of the clients pocket into the trainers hand every agonizing punch. Boxers are in awesome shape because they kick their asses working out. Their heart rate is through the roof, which revs their metabolism and burns insane amounts of calories.
Myth # 3
Staying in the Fat Burning Zone is the Best Way to Burn Fat
Trick question. First off, the Fat Burning Zone is an imaginary zone some idiot trainers (who are probably making millions) made up. 2nd, the zone they speak of burns fat the most efficiently, but no one cares about that. You want the most fat burn overall. Tell me this…Do you burn more calories walking at 3 MPH or running at 8.0 on a 3.5 incline? It is obvious the harder one burns more calories and therefore fat as well.
I realize these myths were a bit exaggerated, but unfortunately many people in a fitness program don’t know the right answer…nor does their trainer. Stay educated, save money, and get better results!
