Monmouth County Boot Camp Post Workout Drink

Post Workout shakes.  What are they really?  Why do we need to take them?  What do I look for when finding a good post workout drink?

I will answer all of these questions and more today and help you pick out a great option so you don’t have to go blind into GNC from now on.

What are they?  A good post workout shake contains carbohydrates and protein, which are usually made up of blend of high quality whey protein and a simple carbohydrate solution.

Why Do We Need to Take Them?  Post Workout nutrition is quite possibly one of the most overlooked parts of a meal plan or diet, because most people have not heard of it until the past few years…if at all.  Just as science has taught us that step aerobics isn’t a great fat burning solution, it has also taught us the importance of good nutrition to help recovery after workouts.  The simple carbs along with the protein act as a major aid in the recovery and rebuilding process of the muscles, which leads to lean muscle and fat loss.

What Should I Look For? Don’t gage your choice on price. Cheapest isn’t always the best and most times will be total crap.  Yes, you can find a 12 gallon tub of Vitamin Shoppe protein for $25, but you’d almost be better off drinking a chocolate milk after and saving your money.  I like to look for a whey protein that does not contain aspartame nor sucralose, both of which are fake sugars.  My favorite of these is Prograde Workout

For vegetarians and vegans, I really like Sun Warrior.Greg Carbone, CSCS, CPT, YFS
